Converting the school into office space, possibly with a few apartments, proved financially unfeasible. The decision was made to replace the school building with a new office building and several apartments for seniors.
The completed apartments are compact (75 m² gross floor area) but appear spacious due to their layout. Buyers had a choice of two layout options.
The design features a layered structure: two-story brick sections—partly positioned as separate screens for the balconies—integrate into the surroundings and, in terms of size, scale, and materialization, align with the adjacent buildings. Behind and above these brick sections, the building is designed as an abstract metal box. The silver-colored metal brings the building to life. The color and sheen of the material change with the weather and the time of year.
In this way, a building, quite large for its surroundings, has been harmoniously integrated into the existing small-scale and traditional buildings.
